New Engines and Safety Features

This year the Honda Civic comes with two new engine options and does away with the old 1.8-liter four cylinder of years past. Now the first two trims will come with a 2.0-liter four cylinder that produces an impressive 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. This first engine option comes with the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or continuously variable transmission. The second engine option is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four cylinder that produces a heart-pounding 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. This second engine is only paired with a CVT. What’s even better is both of these options are more efficient than the 1.8-liter engine from the previous model.

One of the biggest additions, which may even overshadow the new engines, is the newly available Honda Sensing suite of safety features. This suite of features has been added to many other Honda vehicles with a large amount of success, resulting in high safety ratings from the IIHS. This suite of features includes forward collision warning, lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking and road departure mitigation.
